Meet the Pastor

Rev. Philip Loescher

I attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN where I completed 4 years of pre-seminary study, graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts. It was there that I met my best friend and wife, Sami. I continued my studies for becoming a pastor at our synod’s seminary, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. In the winter of my second year, Sami and I were married. In my third year at seminary I was an intern at Hope Lutheran Church in Irmo, SC. In the spring of 2018, I graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary with a Master of Divinity. I was then assigned as head pastor of Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Cadillac, MI. In June, 2020 I received a call to be the pastor of St. John Lutheran Church and at the end of July 2020 my family and I moved out to Hemlock to serve God's children here. Sami and I have two children, Spencer (5) and Maya (3).

As an individual, I enjoy playing and watching most sports. Watching Sunday afternoon football has long been a passion of mine. In my down time, I also find relaxation in putting together puzzles or watching a good movie. More than most other things, though, I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether fishing, playing yard games, or just marveling at God’s wonderful creation.

Yes, I’m a pastor. No, I’m not any different nor any greater than you. I am a sinner in desperate need of a Savior. Just because I stand in the front of a church in a robe on Sunday mornings, doesn’t mean I am a “better,” less-sinful human being than anyone else. I walk through this life with as many struggles against temptation as the next person. If it were up to me, just like you, I’d have no hope of eternal life. But thanks to our crucified and risen Savior, it wasn’t left up to me. Just as I am a sinner like you, I am also a saved and redeemed child of God, like you.
